Powerful Feedback to Enhance Math Learning FILLING

When providing feedback to students regarding their math performance, teachers often rely on an analysis of calculation mistakes and incorrect assumptions.  Teachers also often find it difficult to write questions that push students past what they already know or have learned.  Teacher questions don’t help students explore why they made the mistakes they did on complex tasks, and the questions do not match what the teachers noticed and wondered about student work.

This session is designed to help teachers begin to transform the nature of their questions to deepen student learning.  This work will be accomplished in the session using an online collaboration venue.  Teachers will practice noticing and wondering and crafting appropriate questions based on their own work on a task of high cognitive demand and then commenting on anonymous student work.  The collaborative, online framework slows teachers' thinking down, so they can be more reflective on the work.

BYOD: Plan to bring a laptop, with the ability to connect to a wi-fi network, with you to this session.
