Limited Capacity filling up

Would you let your students read 120 words per minute with zero comprehension of the text? Of course not! Yet, all to often, high achieving math students solve problems accurately with little or no comprehension.  Often our high achievers are a ‘solve and done’ type of learner, who is procedurally strong but lacking conceptual understanding.

In this session, we'll explore a methodology to foster deep understanding for high achieving students. A sequence of actions will be modeled to promote more rigorous, in depth understanding of mathematical concepts. The sequence includes all mathematical practices with a focus on understanding, efficiency and accuracy. This session will offer a sequence of actions to prevent our high achievers from falling through the gaps of accuracy without understanding.
