Thank you for your interest in MidSchoolMath! The 2017 MidSchoolMath National Conference has concluded but attendees can still find Session Handouts and Resources in the Conference Dropbox at: http://bit.ly/MidSchoolMath2017 Attendees may also want to print a copy of their personalized agenda, using this site, so they have a record of the specific sessions they attended.

We look forward to returning to Santa Fe next year!  Save the date for March 2-3, 2018 and visit our website at http://www.midschoolmathnationalconference.com/ for updates on the Call for Presenters (late spring 2017) and Early Bird Registration specials (early fall 2017).

Turning Standards into Rich Mathematical Tasks: Volume and Surface Area FILLING

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity filling up

In this hands-on workshop, participants will work as students through a set of complex instructional challenges derived from Common Core Standard for Grades 5, 6 and 7 mathematics relating linear dimensions, volume and surface area. We will provide comments and links to resources that will help teachers create their own rich mathematical tasks, as described in Jo Boaler’s book, Mathematical Mindsets. In addition, participants, as students, will be guided to fruitful “math talk” using strategies from 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions by Margaret Schwan Smith and Mary Kay Stein. We fully expect the discussion between participants will help us all as learners improve our understanding of complex instruction.
