Middle School Math Teacher
I work at a K-8 public charter school in Las Cruces, New Mexico where I am a “math department of one” for our middle school program, teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math classes. I started my career in bilingual education and taught kindergarten for several years in a dual-language program, and then jumped into fifth grade and then into the wonderful world of middle school. I love working with the students of middle school, and what I particularly love about our program is that I get to work with the same students for three years---I meet them as sixth graders and am their math facilitator for seventh and eighth as well! When I am not hanging with fabulously snarky and bright young adolescents, I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the Mathematically Connected Communities (MC2) project at New Mexico State University, and enjoy immensely the opportunity to help design PD opportunities and collaborate with teachers from all over New Mexico. I graduated in 2003 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in Political Science and Spanish, and from NMSU with an MA in Curriculum and Instruction in 2008, with a specialization in Bilingual Education. I was part of the LIFT program through MC2 and NMSU from 2011-2013, and am currently part of the MC2 Teacher Leader Cadre.
